Enforcement
The enforcement arrangements can broadly be considered under 'short term' and 'long term' Short Term:ERMA New Zealand is presently negotiating with the various agencies responsible
for enforcing various aspects of safety, health and environmental performance
to encourage these agencies to continue their enforcement activities until
a new generation of HSNO enforcement officers can be trained and deployed. The Department of Labour (OSH) and ERMA New Zealand are planning a week long training course for prospective HSNO enforcement officers. OSH is also attempting to recruit additional inspectors to ensure at least 60 field officers are available on 'H-Day'. The NZCIC expects to be involved and is currently discussing with OSH how the use of our PRINCE© checklist would facilitate efficient and cost effective enforcement.
