America Mourns
|
SPRING ISSUE |
As the enormity of the savage and cowardly terrorist
attacks in New York and Washington slowly emerges,
New Zealanders share the shock and grief of our
American colleagues. Although the initial reaction of
stunned disbelief is giving way to an intense anger
directed towards a thus far anonymous attacker, the
most pressing need is to care for the victims and
speed the recovery process.
The global condemnation of these cowardly acts is
encouraging and will hopefully expedite the rapid
apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims,
Responsible Care in the Spotlight
The global chemical industry is preparing for a major
contribution to the UN World Summit for Sustainable
Development (WSSD) meeting in Johannesburg in
September 2002.
The expectation is that industry efforts to safeguard
employees and the community while acknowledging rising
community SH&E protection expectations, will be
scrutinised.
Fifteen industry sectors have been invited to report on
how they are addressing sustainable development
challenges, particularly in development countries. The
global chemical industry will need to satisfy WSSD
delegates we are taking all practicable steps to achieve
the desirable goals of sustainability and accountability.
