The NZCIC's PRINCE© Accreditation programme

Two People

Does your business comply with New Zealand's demanding safety, health and environmental (SH&E) protection legislation and performance standards? Do you exceed them?
Can you prove it? Have you been recognised and rewarded for your efforts?

Now you can be, with PRINCE© accreditation from the New Zealand Chemical Industry Council.

Completing the PRINCE© performance accreditation programme shows you take SH&E protection seriously, that you accept responsibility for the safety and health of your employees, your local community and the environment. PRINCE© accreditation shows your business is a conscientious corporate citizen - one other companies can be confident in doing business with.

Completing a comprehensive checklist enables employers to assess the extent to which they comply with mandatory workplace safety regulations and environmental protection requirements.

Check your business into the PRINCE© accreditation programme today - and obtain independent confirmation that your business is compliant.

A Signal to industry regulators and the community
Back To Top

Every employer understands the importance of meeting SH&E protection standards.

But how do we know who's meeting them? To what extent? And how do they do it?

A PRINCE© accreditation is an excellent way to show employees, regulators, enforcement agencies, the community and your potential business partners that you are serious about SH&E protection. Prove your operation meets or exceeds national and internationally accepted SH&E performance standards and reap the benefits.

A sound investment
Back To Top

A PRINCE© accreditation has many benefits for your business and your industry:

  • Industry recognition: Certification signifies you meet or exceed the national and international SH&E performance expectations of government, labour and the community.
  • Evidence: Prove that your business meets local, regional and national SH&E regulations and consent requirements.
  • A business tool: Use your detailed PRINCE© audit report to improve your business and achieve higher SH&E performance standards.
  • World-class values: Send the message that your business meets the world's most demanding SH&E protection standards.
  • Safety against litigation: In the event of an incident (e.g. chemical spill), PRINCE© accreditation provides proof that you routinely recognise the risk and take every practical precaution to eliminate or minimise potential problems.
  • Industry commitment: Show enforcement agencies that industry is able to regulate itself to a high standard thereby avoiding further expensive regulatory restrictions and intervention.

We expect PRINCE© to become a principal means of assessing national SH&E performance, which confirms every employer's commitment to compliance and best practice.

An NZCIC PRINCE© accreditation ensures responsible employers are working continuously to provide a safe workplace while protecting New Zealand's precious environment.

two designations

Your business can achieve two levels of recognition:

  1. PRINCE©: This award recognises that your company complies with SH&E protection legislation, and best practice.
  2. PRINCE© GOLD: This award recognises your company's commitment to superior SH&E performance. It is designed to confirm compliance and acknowledge excellence, including successful product stewardship initiatives and other innovative 'customer care' schemes.

the process
Back To Top

PRINCE© accreditation is achieved through a comprehensive assessment of your facilities and operations (including contractors) by highly qualified and experienced assessors. When each site achieves the required standard, you will receive a PRINCE© accreditation valid for between one to three years, depending on the level of risk associated with your operations.

If PRINCE© reveals you don't yet meet the required performance standards, the comprehensive report will identify the areas that need attention and recommend solutions. Our expert advisors will assist you with the necessary actions.

certification to ISO 9000/14000 Series
Back To Top

Many employers believe certification to either the ISO 9000 series or ISO 14001 series, will prove compliance with SH&E regulations. This is incorrect.

Responsible Care™ reflects New Zealand legislation and best international work practices. The Responsible Care™ Management System is based on the industry codes of practice that define the required SH&E performance standards.

If your primary objective is to demonstrate your business complies with best industry performance standards, Responsible Care™ will offer what ISO certification cannot accomplish, namely a comprehensive assessment of your legal and moral obligations as a "good employer".

Certification to PRINCE© is a more comprehensive and demanding performance audit process than ISO certification.

Should you subsequently seek certification to the ISO 9000 or ISO 14001 series, then PRINCE© certification will ensure you have accomplished most of the task.

Local authorities will probably assume prime responsibility for enforcing SH&E legislation. The NZCIC is proposing PRINCE© as the means by which compliance officers could standardise the assessment process and report results.

We are confident PRINCE© will ultimately become a national benchmark for assessing and reporting SH&E performance.
